One of the reasons I love art so much is that it can teach you how to love the world. The world is as you are, I once read, and this sentiment has never left me. Be serious, and it will be serious. Be playful and child-like, and be ready for some play and laughter. Art has always been my antidote to seriousness and I think it’s important to collect and share works that challenge the more ‘serious’ predispositions of human nature in favour of a lighter, weirder, and messier glimpses of human creativity.
I came across this passage by Osho:
“I don’t think existence wants you to be serious. I have not seen a serious tree. I have not seen a serious bird. I have not seen a serious sunrise. I have not seen a serious starry night. It seems they are all laughing in their own ways, dancing in their own ways. We may not understand it, but there is a subtle feeling that the whole existence is a celebration.”
I love looking at art that references flora and fauna, for as Osho notes, these happenings are never serious. On the contrary, images of animals and inspiring blooming expressions of nature shift the energy to something lighter and gentler, in a way. They invite more curiosity, play, and a feeling of being part of something greater than the limits of the human world.
